The Golden Circle tour contains some of North America’s grandest scenery, wildest places and plenty opportunities for enjoying the Midnight Sun or the Aurora Borealis. This great tour offers different landscapes—from boreal forest to coastal rainforest to immense icefields. You can experience native culture and lifestyle by visiting local museums and traditional fishing villages. Both passes, White Pass and Chilkat Pass were used during the Klondike Gold Rush and the towns of Carcross and Skagway still retain the character of those times. Starting in Whitehorse with the more rounded mountains of the Yukon’s interior valley, the South Klondike Highway rises as you approach Carcross and the Southern Lakes region. The road borders some of these large, long, beautiful lakes before rising over the rugged coastal mountains and then descending into the Alaskan Coast, where Skagway and Haines is located.

Reaching Haines by Ferry, and taking a plane to the stunning Glacier Bay Country, in quiet Gustavus Alaska, the gateway to Glacier Bay National Park. From Haines we follow the wide valley of the Chilkat River until it steeply rises through thick forests of hemlock and Sitka spruce to the magnificent mountain scenery of the Chilkat Pass. The road ends in Haines Junction on the edges of Kluane National Park and Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains Canada’s highest mountains, the largest non-polar icefield in the world, and a rich variety of bird, plant, and animal life. The park contains over 2,000 glaciers—including valley, alpine and rock glaciers.

Arrival Whitehorse

From the airport we drive you to your hotel located in the centre of Whitehorse. Whitehorse is small and easy to explore on foot. You will meet your fellow travellers and your guide will review the itinerary at our group meeting this afternoon. The evening is free to explore the city and do any last minute shopping. Overnight accommodation in Whitehorse

Whitehorse – Skagway

On our way to Skagway we stop at the smallest desert in the world - the Carcross desert - and we visit Carcross, a charming lakeshore village teeming with gold-rush and First Nations history. Of course we will also admire Emerald Lake, called „Rainbow Lake” from the locals due to its sensational coloration. Driving over the White Pass is probably one of the highlights on this amazing road trip. Optional you can join the famous White Pass & Yukon Route small-track train on the way to Skagway. In Skagway you have the chance strolling the historic streets, the gateway for many Stampeders on they way to the Klondike Goldfields. Overnight accommodation in Skagway

Skagway – Glacier Bay

After breakfast, we explore Skagway and Dye, the start of the Chilkoot Trail. Seals can often be seen at the mouth of the Taiya River. In the afternoon, via ferry we travel through the Lynn Fjord and with some luck we can see seals, whales and bald eagles making this area their home. After arriving in Haines we continue travelling to Gustavus / Glacier Bay Lodge. At this amazing place, just breathe in the fresh air and decompress from the travels while enjoying the afternoon snack at the lodge. Overnight accommodation in Gustavus

Glacier Bay

Today, we join the Baranof Wind Glacier Tour, an 8 hour cruise aboard a high-speed catamaran. The tour itinerary covers the west arm of Glacier Bay National Park and highlights the natural history, wildlife, geography, and tidewater glaciers of the area. Spend the day on the waters of Glacier Bay and see magnificent tidewater glaciers, towering snow-capped mountains, spectacular wildlife, whales, sea lions, rare birds, black bear, brown bears, seals, eagles, and much more along mile after mile of pristine coastline. Overnight accommodation in Gustavus

Glacier Bay – Haines

After saying Good Bye to this wonderful place we fly back to Haines. Haines is a picturesque fishing village situated on a finger of land between Chilkat and Chilkoot inlets in the Lynn Canal. After check in at our hotel and lunch break, we explore this charming town on a City Sightseeing tour. Overnight accommodation in Haines

Haines

Today, we travel to the nearby Chilkat State Park for wildlife watching. Haines is known to attract lots of bears, bald eagles and sea lions, so with a bit of luck we can take some great pictures of wildlife. Also, we don’t want to miss the breathtaking glaciers that Haines has to offer. Overnight accommodation in Haines

Haines – Haines Junction

Leaving Haines after a hearty breakfast, the road travels along the braided banks of the Chilkat River. This is North America’s best eagle viewing area. After crossing the Boarder and the Chilkat Pass in a pristine landscape, we will go on a short trail that leads to the spectacular Million Dollar Falls. Before arriving in Haines Junction we will stop at the picturesque Kathleen Lake. Overnight accommodation in Haines Junction

Haines Junction – Whitehorse

Today, we start our visit at the Kluane National Park Visitor Information Centre for interpretive displays and an audio-visual presentation. Depending on the level of interest among the passengers we can also organize a spectacular flight by bush plane over the immense glaciers of the park (optional). This adventure, over a virtually pristine wilderness, is especially spectacular during a clear day. Return to Whitehorse in the early afternoon. Overnight accommodation in Whitehorse
