Enjoy Yukon’s most charming cities, the capital of the Yukon, Whitehorse and a small town in the North with a huge personality - Dawson city, unlike any place on earth. On our road trip to Dawson City you will be accompanied by a fascinating landscape. Often described as a living museum, Dawson City’s boardwalk-lined streets contain many attractions and historical artifacts, back from the gold rush. Try your luck at Diamond Tooth Gerties, a unique casino with cabaret-style entertainment of the gold rush era and explore the history of all famous writers like Robert Service, Jack London and Pierre Berton. Are you ready to pan for gold in the rivers and creeks surrounding Dawson? We will bring you to an active gold mine outside of town. To continue your Yukon adventure we’ll go right into the heart of the Tombstone mountains, where you will be surrounded by an epic, colorful scenery and pristine wildlife.

Arrive Whitehorse

Transfer to your hotel located in the heart of the city, not far from the banks of the Yukon River. Whitehorse is small and easy to explore on foot or by vehicle. Visit the SS Klondike National Historic Site; among the last of the great paddle wheelers that plied the Yukon River system until the 1950’s, the Old Log Church; the oldest building in Whitehorse, the unique Log Cabin Skyscraper; a three story tower made completely out of logs. Learn about the Yukon’s history at the MacBride Museum of the Yukon, experience pre-historic history at the Yukon Beringia Interpretative Centre and stop in at the unique Yukon Transportation Museum located nearby. And when you’ve seen all these top sites, Main Street is perfect for strolling and shopping with its shops galleries and café’s. One of the most sought-after Northern experiences, a Yukon vacation is only complete with viewing the Midnight Sun or the Aurora Borealis cascading across the Yukon night sky (depending on the season). Overnight accommodation in Whitehorse.

Whitehorse - Dawson City

Today we start our adventure in Whitehorse and travel on the North Klondike Highway towards the Northwest, the historic Dawson City. Our first stop is at Braeburn Lodge where you can try their famous Cinnamon Buns. Old post offices, roadhouses, small villages and great viewpoints along the Highway constantly bring back to mind the gold rush era 100 years ago. After a relaxed dinner we pick you up from your hotel for our evening program and visit Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall with poker game and Cancan-Dance-Girls. Overnight accommodation in Dawson City.

Dawson City

After breakfast, we discover Dawson City. A visit to the Jack London and Robert Service cabins and the museum are on the program. A highlight is the drive into the Bonanza and Eldorado Creeks where we visit the historic Dredge #4 and an active gold mine. You have the chance to try your luck panning for gold in the Klondike. In the late afternoon we travel up the Midnight Dome Road for fantastic views of Dawson City and the Yukon River. After a true northern dinner you have the time to explore the city yourself by foot. Overnight accommodation in Dawson City.

Dempster Highway / Tombstone Mountains

After getting up early we drive up the Dempster Highway which is 730 km long and is the only year-round road connection to the Arctic Sea. After a short visit at the Tombstone Visitor Center we are ready to start our hike at the foot of the Tombstone Mountains; this will lead us into the tundra of this mountain range, where every season has its unique attraction. From the top of the trail, hikers have an exceptional 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, including Discovery Ridge, North Fork Pass, and Fold Mountain. Our primary purpose for this tour was to see Aurora. The activity of Aurora was strong at that time (end of August), ....

I flew to Whitehorse only for 1 night in the hope to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). It was a risk as they don't come out every night, but it paid off. At approx 3am the lights came out and it was spectacular.
