The far north offers the best winter activities in Canada - dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, icefishing, wildlife viewing, hot springs, flightseeing and watching the Aurora Borealis. During this fun-packed winter program you will travel like a musher, dine like a fisherman, track like a stampeder - explore like a local.

During a spectactular sightseeing flight above the surrounding area of Whitehorse you’ll have a chance to see the grand landscape of the far north. We’ll take you to explore the rich history of the Yukon during a city tour, watch local wildlife upclose at the Yukon Wildlife Preseve. Dalls sheep, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, mule deer, wapiti (elk), woodland caribou, wood bison, musk-ox, moose, arctic fox and even lynx can all be seen on this tour. Relax in the soothing hot waters of the local hot springs. Learn how to mush with your team of huskies which will wisk you away onto trails in the winter wonderland. Feel the rush of driving a snowmobile into the backcountry to magnificent view points. You’ll setout on a beautiful winter lake to discover the tranquility of ice fishing. If your are lucky and catch a nice fish your guide will fillet it and cook it on the fire. Set your tracks during a snowshoeing tour among some of the most impressive landscapes. On three evenings of your choice, you’ll travel just outside the city centre, but far enough from the city lights to an idyllic Northern Lights viewing location, the AuroraCentre. The evenings will feature relaxing Northern Lights viewing beside a cozy wood stove or roaring campfire. A winter vacation is truly complete with the chance to view the aurora borealis cascading across the night sky.

WILDLIFE, HOT SPRINGS, A BIRDS-EYE-VIEW AND NORTHERN LIGHTS

We start the day with a sightseeing flight above the spectacular winter scenery on a 30 minutes sightseeing flight. During the flight we can enjoy the yukon winter from an angle only few people ever will. Back in Whitehorse we will discover the history of the north on a city-sightseeing tour. Whitehorse has a lot to offer and is home to famous sights like the historic Paddlewheeler SS Klondike or a “Skyscraper” completely made out of logs. Later we drive to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve where we can see up close inhabitant game like the Elk, Moose, Caribou, Mountain Goats and Lynx in their natural surrounding. Not far from here we will visit the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs and indulge ourself in the natural hot waters and relax in a breathtaking winter mountain setting. After a relaxed dinner in Whitehorse, you’ll be back on the road again, this time to seek views of the stunning Northern Lights. Relax in sheltered comfort, or under the starry sky beside a warm fire at one of our tailor-made aurora viewing locations. Accommodation: Sternwheeler Hotel

THE HUSKIES ARE WAITING FOR US AND NORTHERN LIGHTS

Strap on your boots and zip up your jackets! Today we combine Yukon’s rich gold rush history with the thrill of mushing with a team of sled dogs in the hands of an expert dog sled guide. Take a ride behind friendly huskies, visit a race check point and learn about dog sledding history, racing and life as a musher. Step back in time at a prospector cabin and enjoy listening to stories about the history of dog sledding from 4000 years ago to today. Later in the evening we set out to the AuroraCentre where we’ll seek the sight of northern lights. Accommodation: Sternwheeler Hotel.

ON FAST TRACKS THROUGH THE SNOW

After breakfast we drive into the mountains closeby Whitehorse. After a detailed safety introduction we step on our snowmobiles. With enjoyable speed we’ll pass through the memorable winter scenery of the Yukon and soak up the view of snow covered mountains and lakes with thick layers of ice. With a snowmobile, the journey can be an exhilarating ride up and down magnificent mountains or a relaxing tour through the forest and down historic trails. Tonight is another chance to see the Aurora Borealis as we set out to the AuroraCentre. Accommodation: Sternwheeler Hotel

FISHING ON A FROZEN LAKE

Today we will head out for an ice fishing adventure on one of the beautiful lakes in the Whitehorse area. With the help of an ice-auger, we will drill a hole in the ice. The ice on a lake can be from 30 cm to one meter thick! Hot drinks will be available to keep us toasty. Take a look around and enjoy the beauty of a winter’s day while waiting for the big catch! If we are lucky and catch a nice trout your guide will fillet it and cook it on the fire. At the end of our day we return to Whitehorse with a record catch of great memories. Accommodation: Sternwheeler Hotel

SETTING TRACK IN WINTER WONDERLAND

Snowshoeing is one of the best ways to enjoy the tranquility of the Yukon wilderness and to photograph the stunning Yukon landscape. On our half day snowshoeing tour, you’ll get to strap on a pair of lightweight modern snowshoes and experience the rugged backcountry just like the gold miners, trappers and fur traders of days gone by. Tour visits a scenic location in the Whitehorse area backcountry. Wildlife such as spruce grouse, foxes, coyotes and snowshoe hares is occasionally spotted at a distance. • I flew to Whitehorse only for 1 night in the hope to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). It was a risk as they don't come out every night, but it paid off. At approx 3am the lights came out and it was spectacular.
