Day 1: Arrival Whitehorse
From the airport we drive you to your hotel located in the centre of Whitehorse. After a relaxed dinner we will pick you up from the hotel for our evening program at the famous AuroraCentre. One of the most sought-after Northern experiences, a Yukon winter vacation is only complete with viewing the Aurora Borealis cascading across the Yukon night sky. Accommodation: Westmark Whitehorse.
Day 2: Experience Dog Sledding, Wildlife and Hotsprings
After Breakfast, today you will travel to the Takhini River area, just outside Whitehorse. Our first stop is at the Kennel, where you’ll assist in harnessing and hooking up your own team of Alaskan huskies before being whisked away in the sled basket on a wonderful trip on the trails along the Takhini River with your own private musher at the helm of your team. An ideal tour for those who just want a taste of dog sledding without embarking on an expedition, participants who are interested, will then have the opportunity to drive their own team in comfort, knowing your guide is travelling with you. After you’ve had a northern lunch and said good bye to the wonderful huskies, we’ll depart to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve where you’ll have the opportunity to view and photograph wildlife in its natural habitat. Dall sheep, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, mule deer, wapiti (elk), woodland caribou, wood bison, musk-ox, moose and even lynx can all seen on this tour, usually up close! To cap of a great day, we’ll travel to the nearby Takhini Hotsprings. The outdoor hot springs pool provides a warm sanctuary amid the cold winter weather and is a must-do activity while visiting Whitehorse! In the evening, after dinner, we will bring you once more to the AuroraCentre to seek views of the stunning Northern Lights. Relax in sheltered comfort, or under the starry sky beside a warm fire at one of our tailor-made aurora viewing locations. Accommodation: Westmark Whitehorse.
Day 3: Yukon Winter Escape | Lake Cabin
After Breakfast, we will pick you up in the morning. From Whitehorse we will drive north on the Alaska Highway towards Kluane National Park and on the way you will be able to see the front range of the St. Elias mountains. The guide will have good historical and cultural knowledge of the area you are traveling through. After we unload the snowmobiles at the trailhead we will give you hands-on instruction on how to properly ride your snowmobile. Then we start our snowmobile adventure and travel north into some beautiful mountain country. On the way we’ll be looking for and identifying animal tracks and will stop for a snack and hot beverage. After about two hours, we arrive at our cabin where we stay for the next 2 nights. You will have the luxury of staying in your own brand new, private and exclusive log cabin. Upon arrival, we’ll get the wood heaters going to warm up the cabins, cut a hole in the ice for water, do a few other chores and have lunch. After that, we’ll snowmobile around the lake and get you familiarized with the country. We will serve a good hearty dinner and then spend the rest of the evening telling you about the country (First Nations) and stories related to the area we are living in. You can enjoy the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) in complete seclusion under the northern sky all night long. Overnight at Private Lake Cabin.
Day 4: Snowmobiling, Snowshoeing & Ice-Fishing
The next morning, we’ll have a great northern breakfast and then get ready to snowmobile north to see some new country. Our trail to the north of the cabins will be approximately 30 km (return) and will take a good part of the day. We’ll go as far as “the look-out” – an amazing scenic viewpoint, far above the valley floor, where you can see the mountainous country all around for many miles. You can also see the valley of the famous Dalton Trail from the look-out. We’ll have lunch “on the trail”. If it’s very cold out, we’ll make a campfire to keep warm while we’re having lunch. After we get back to the cabins, time permitting, we will either go on a snowshoe trail or go ice-fishing – your choice. Please note that exact timing of most activities are weather-dependent. Another night in complete remoteness let you enjoy the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) under the northern sky. Overnight at Private Lake Cabin.
Day 5: Snowmobiling & Return to Whitehorse
After breakfast, we’ll have time for a short snowshoe hike or some ice-fishing before we get organized to head back out to the highway where our vehicle is. Return to Whitehorse in the late afternoon and we will transfer you to the airport, check in for your southbound flight..
